The wrong size needles and checking your gauge!!!

Well I thought I was going to town on Gemma's sweater. It was looking so great when I got to the end of the lace edging for the back I thought it looked a little small. I then realized I was using the wrong sized needles! I think pregnancy and knitting don't mix well together as my brain is not functioning in the normal capacity. Well I went and bought bigger needles at Knitting in Scottsdale and check out there shop. They have a great selection of yarn and they also had a full house when I was there. I also ran in to Onida, a girl that comes to the Stitch n Bitch group, and she introduced me to the owner. Once again I was disappointed with the customer service I received at the store. Is it me or is there a secret society of of knitters or a knitters handshake you have to know to get on these knitting shop owners good sides? I had heard good things from Onida, but I think she goes there quite often and maybe because they thought I would only stop by there this one time, I wouldn't be a long term customer. I will go anywhere in the valley to get good customer service at a knitting shop! This is so frustrating!!!!

I am off to start my lace edging with bigger needles! Hopefully it will work out this time!

Knitting Lacy Stuff

I started knitting a sweater for my daughter for the fall/winter last week. I have great Rowan DK Cotton that is probably my most favorite yarn to knit. This sweater is extremely lacy!!! I finished a sleeve last night that turned out really nice and then I started the bottom scalloped edging of the sweater. I am getting more confident in my pattern reading skills, so I have been going to town on it. The only problem is if I am interpreted I will really loose my place. Needless to say I had half of it done and had to rip it all out. Oh well, I think of it as a learning experience. Even if you have to rip something out, you are becoming a better knitter and learning tons from your mistakes. I am going to attempt some pics of the sweater pieces thus far and try to post them.

Sock Workshop

I attend a sock workshop today for my knitting group. It was very good and everyone seemed to be very interested in knitting socks. I found out I was knitting my sock inside out as I was holding my needles outward instead of close to my body. I have about an 1 1/2" of my sock knit and need to get to 2" before I change to stocking stitch.

I am also very tired and pregnant today. Only 10 weeks to go. My back is really hurting me and my sleep pattern is all out of sorts. I am looking forward to the early December due date of my baby. I know it will all be worth it in the end, but I just have not felt good today. A huge bright spot is looking at my husband and daughter reading books and singing good night songs together. I am so lucky to have them!

Why Berly's Blog

Hello,

I have been inspired by my knitting group to start a blog. I also thought it might come in very handy to my family to keep in touch with my everyday thoughts, feelings, and what I am doing in life in general. I decided to title my blog Berly's blog because my wonderful father gave me the nickname "Berly", short for Kimberly, when I was a teenager. The name Berly reminds me of my youth and it especially reminds me of my college days. Everyone in college knew me as Berly, in fact some people even thought my name was Kim(fn) Berly(ln)! Now 12 years out of college, I have now became Kim again. I miss the name Berly, although it does sound like a person with brut strength, so I thought I would name my blog Berly's Blog.

Sincerely,
Kim 'Berly'
